Artistic direction:
Louise Leverd
Michelle Agnes Magalhaes

Louise Leverd and Michelle Agnes Magalhaes share the artistic direction of soundinitiative since 2025, bringing together distinct yet deeply resonant artistic paths.

Cellist, improviser, and founding member of the ensemble, Louise Leverd has, since the beginning of soundinitiative, cultivated a singular artistic language at the crossroads of sound, movement, and performance. Her work unfolds through contemporary creation, experimental forms, live arts, and collective practices, constantly seeking new modes of presence and listening.

Composer Michelle Agnes Magalhaes has developed a body of work rooted in the relational dimensions of music — attentive to interaction, interdependence, and the living. Her collaboration with soundinitiative began in 2016 with the interactive piece Constella(c)tions, opening an ongoing dialogue around shared creation and expanded forms of musical experience.

Together, they envision the concert as a space of encounter: a place where listening becomes collective, embodied, and transformative. Their projects seek to place audiences at the centre of the experience, dissolving conventional distances between performers, composers, and listeners, and allowing roles to circulate, shift, and merge.

soundinitiative’s artistic approach embraces a plurality of forms — collective works, interactive scores, performative pieces, technological explorations, and site-sensitive creations. Mobility within the programme, both physical and perceptual, becomes a compositional tool through which listening is experienced as intimate, subjective, and grounded in the body.

Conviviality lies at the heart of this practice. Each project emerges through attention to the spaces that host it and the communities that inhabit them, weaving temporary yet meaningful constellations between places, people, and sounds.

Transmission and mediation are understood not as parallel activities, but as integral artistic gestures. Guided by curiosity and a desire for exchange, soundinitiative conceives every encounter as a shared field of experience in which audiences, performers, and composers are transformed together through the act of listening.
